Gov Sani-Bello Mourns Former President ,Shehu Shagari ....Says Late Elder Statesman Was A Hero Of Democracy

Niger State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello has joined the entire nation to mourn the death of former second republic President, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari.

In a statement issued by the State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Alhaji Danjuma Sallau, the Governor expressed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all Nigerians as well as the Government and people of Sokoto State.

Governor Sani Bello paid glowing tribute to the late political icon whose invaluable, personal sacrifices essentially contributed to the laying and strengthening of the foundation for sustainable democratic culture in the country.

He also affirmed the deceased's strong and unshaken commitment to the unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria which is one of the reasons why the late Elder Statesman enjoyed respect across all political divide.

"It's indeed a huge loss for us as a country, we have just lost another great believer in the unity and indivisibility of our nation, a nationalist and one of our heroes of democracy".the Governor said.

Governor Sani-Bello noted that, late Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari lived a worthy and exemplary life and would be remembered as a selfless leader who left a legacy of integrity strong moral character for posterity.

The Governor who commiserated with Nigerians, Government and People of Sokoto State as well as the immediate families of the deceased, also prayed Allah to grant him eternal rest and reward him with Jannatul Firdausi.

Late Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, died Friday at the National Hospital Abuja, after a brief illness at the age of 93.

The deceased was elected president in 1979 and led Nigeria between 1979- 1983 on the platform of defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN). His government was overthrown by the Military in December 1983.
