Niger State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has flagged off the distribution of over N150 million basic medical equipments to 274 primary health care centers in the state.The distribution coincided with the commissioning of the newly built Fuka Primary Healthcare Center,in Muyan Local Government area of the state.The health facility is a colaborative effort by the Federal and the state governments.Governor Sani Bello said the decision to procure and distribute the equipment was informed by the deplorable state of the primary healthcare in the state when he assumed office.According to him,health care services,especially in the rural areas were grossly inadequate and where available were out of reach of the masses.He said the distribution of the medical equipments to all the 274 wards focal Primary Healthcare Centers was to ensure that PHC facility in each of the wards is fully revitalised to provide minimum service to the citizens, especially the poor and the vulnerables."The distribution of these medical equipments is a testament to our resolve to reactive and revitalise our primary healthcare delivery system.We are committed to ensuring that all our PHC are equipped to meet the task of providing basic health services to our people,especially those in the rural areas."This administration will continue to put our people first.We are committed to the restoration agenda and the social contract we had with Nigerlites who freely and unanimously gave us the leadership mandate," the governor assured the people.The state Commissioner for Health,Dr.Jibril Mustapha attributed the distribution of the basic medical equipments to the doggedness and commitment of Governor Sani Bello at rescuing and restoring the health sector in the state.Mustapha also commended the Minister of Health,Prof.Isaac Adewole, who was in attendance at the distribution ceremony,for his untiring efforts at repositioning the primary health care system noting that the efforts have started to yield positive results nationwide.Presenting the equipments to the Chairman Rafi Local Governmrnt,Hon.Gambo Tanko Kamara,who is also National President of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON),the Minister of Health enjoined all the council chairmen to jealously take care of the equipment and ensure there is maximum utilisation for the benefit of their people.The equipment distributed include stethoscope,examination torchlight and sphygmomanometer;adult weighing scale,children weighing and manual suction machines,infrared thermometers,delivery beds,yards of Macintosh lining and 274 medium sized refrigerators.
