The Chairman Abaji Area Council, Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya said his administration is committed to providing people's oriented policies that are second to none in the history of Abaji Area Council of federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya stated this yesterday when the Executive members of the NUJ FCT chapter of Correspondence Chapel paid a courtesy call to his office in Abaji.
Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya said the economy situation in the country also affect the monthly allocation received by the area Council but despite this, he has been able to better the lots of the electorates in the Area Council The Chairman said his administration has achieved a lot in the development of the area Council, such as prompt payment of Staff salaries unlike what was obtainable with the previous administrations which made his government inherited backlog of salary arrears.
Hon Ajiya described education as the bedrock of the society and which made him to pick education as of one his policy agenda through the establishment of first Government Senior Secondary School, Abaji,School enrollment programme and scholarship scheme for the less privileged, facilitation of the citing of proposed Abuja University of Technology in Abaji Area Council. Construction of female corper's Lodge, renovation of Male corper's Lodge,
He said his administration has completed the construction of Agana Pandagi - Gbako road, erosion control in Pandagi and Morigi in partnership with Federal Capital Development Authority(FCDA) Provision of borehole and generators to the rural communities and the on going construction of Water treatment plant in collaboration with Federal Capital Development Authority(FCDA ) ,
He stated empowerment programmes embarking upon by his administration such as distribution of soft loan to the youths and women societies in the area, employment of over 140 sanitary inspectors and cleaners,
Provision of electricity to various communities in the area Council, Construction of ICT Centre, National Identity management Commission (NIMC) registration center also listed his achievements in the health sector like, construction of health care center in Pandagi and Abaji, Prom immunization exercise against meningitis.
Hon.Ajiya said in support of diversification of the economy to non oil sectors , farmers in the area Council has been organised into clusters in other to benefit from the National Agricultural policy. and Cooperative societies and groups are also benefitting from grants provided by his administration.
The Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondence Chapel, Raphael Ekpan in his speech, said the purpose of the visit was to identify with the laudable feats of Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya led administration in Abaji Area Council and also to seek partnership with the area Council in the area of effective media coverage,and capacity building, He also used the occasion to seek for plots of land where Journalists Estate can be cited in Abaji.
In his response, the Chairman of the area Council, Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya said thanked Executive members of the correspondence Chapel for the visit, he promised to partner with the chapel in terms of media coverage and other areas that can benefit the both parties.
Also in his own remark, the Speaker of the Abaji legislative Council, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Yahaya, described the Council Chairman as a uncommon Achiever whom despite the paucity of fund in the area Council was able to surpassed his predecessors through laudable projects and prudent management of the Council allocations .
Administrative Head of the area Council, Mr. Matthew Okpeku said the Council will key into any partnership with Nigerian journalists, he enjoined journalists to adhere to the principle of balance reporting..
The visit was witnessed by the All Progressive Congress party chairman in Abaji, Alhaji Haruna , councilors, Council top officials and other political appointees in the area Council.
