2019 ELECTIONS : INEC Promises Insurance Package for Corps Members On Election Duties

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has promised insurance package for any Corps Member that suffers permanent disability during the forthcoming General Elections.

Enugu State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Emeka Ononamadu stated this today while addressing Corps Members in Enugu after the Director-General, Major General Suleiman Kazaure sensitized them on their responsibilities as ad-hoc staff.

The INEC REC said Corps Members would coordinate the 4,146 polling centres as polling officers across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.

He said Enugu State had no record of election violence but added that security agencies have promised to protect Corps Members and other electoral officials.

"Everybody on election duties is covered by insurance including 2,958 polling officers".

"A good country is a country that conducts proper election", he said.

Ononamadu also appealed to the Corps Members to be non-partisan in the conduct of the elections because their actions would determine what the future entails.

Speaking earlier during the sensitization, Major General Kazaure urged the Corps Members to adhere strictly to the electoral laws adding that  violators would be sanctioned.

He also implored them to be security conscious before, during and after the elections.

"Don't use any vehicle that belong to politicians or strangers, use only accredited vehicles by INEC", Kazaure warned.
