SECURITY : Police Seek Partnership with Journalists, Residents

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has called on  Nigerian journalists to always provide necessary information that will aid residents in being security conscious and stay protected in the capital city.

This call was made on Friday by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Ciroma while receiving the executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council led by the Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche in his office.

Ciroma who said he was excited to receive leadership of NUJ FCT Council, noted that newsmen has greater roles to play in strengthening the security architecture of the FCT.

He said his five years synergy with the press has really paid off and will make him to build stronger synergy with NUJ FCT Council.

Ciroma noted "Security is everybody’s business as police cannot do it alone That is why the world is embracing community policing” he remarked.

While calling on members of the society to help police in intelligent gathering and sharing, Ciroma pledged to work with NUJ FCT to enhance security of lives and property.

Reacting on the issue of “One chance” menace in the city as raised by NUJ Chairman, Ciroma said the police have a Task Force that is capable to curb the menace, he urged residents to always volunteer information that will aid their work. 

Speaking earlier, Chairman of Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche who also commiserated with the Commissioner on the death of his relative said the purpose of the visit was to deepen relations with the command and began a strategic partnership that will be of mutual benefit.

Ogbeche further made case for police collaboration in war against fake journalists which he said was hindering professionalism, he also appealed to the command to extend the partnership on the fight against hate speech, given the fact that 2019 general elections are at hand.
